Nomadic Woollen Mills
Since 2007, Nomadic Woollen Mills has been dedicated to crafting premium Pashmina products from the serene landscapes of Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas. Our mission is rooted in preserving, promoting, and enhancing the traditional arts and crafts of the region, while also creating meaningful livelihood opportunities for local artisans — especially women.
We specialize in exquisitely hand-knitted and hand-woven products including hats, mufflers, shawls, and stoles, all made with the finest Pashmina sourced from the Changthang plateau. This high-altitude region is home to the Changpa nomads, whose indigenous Changra goats produce the world’s finest Pashmina wool. The fiber is collected using a traditional combing method that ensures no harm to the animal.
While spinning continues in local homes and village co-operatives, all weaving is done at our in-house weaving studio. Here, we not only produce our collections but also provide ongoing training and skill development for local artisans. By blending modern tools and techniques with age-old methods, we aim to elevate the craft while preserving its roots.
We are committed to natural, chemical-free processing, ensuring our products are as gentle on the environment as they are luxurious to wear. One of our core goals is to build a complete Pashmina ecosystem within Ladakh, where every stage of production — from raw fiber to finished product — is handled locally. This approach supports local communities, safeguards ancient traditions, and minimizes environmental impact by reducing carbon footprints.
In addition to Pashmina, we also offer a small selection of rare textiles made from yak wool and Bactrian camel wool. Due to their limited availability, these articles are kept in very small quantities, but each piece reflects the same dedication to quality, sustainability, and heritage.
When you choose Nomadic Woollen Mills, you’re investing in sustainably made, high-quality fibers and becoming part of a movement that champions craftsmanship, community, and climate consciousness.
